What We Believe

Statement of Faith

Solid Rock Baptist Institute is committed to the authority of the Word of God, the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the faithful practice of historic independent Baptist doctrine.

Our Doctrinal Foundation

The following statement summarizes the basic doctrinal position of Solid Rock Baptist Institute. We believe that sound doctrine is essential to Christian growth, faithful ministry, and obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Solid Rock Baptist Institute is independent Baptist in doctrine and practice, King James Bible-based, local-church minded, evangelistic, and committed to training believers to stand upon the truth of Scripture.

1. The Holy Scriptures

We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, preserved Word of God. We believe that God gave His Word by inspiration and has preserved His Word for His people. We use and teach from the King James Bible as the preserved Word of God for English-speaking people.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” — 2 Timothy 3:16

2. The True God

We believe there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. These three are one God, equal in power, glory, nature, and perfection.

“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” — 1 John 5:7

3. The Lord Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, God manifest in the flesh. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, present intercession, and personal return.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” — John 1:1

4. The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is a divine person, equal with God the Father and God the Son. He convicts the world of sin, regenerates the believer, indwells the saved, seals the believer, and empowers Christians for service.

“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” — Ephesians 4:30

5. Creation

We believe that God created the heaven and the earth as recorded in Genesis. We reject evolution as an explanation for the origin of life and believe that man was created directly by God in His image.

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1

6. Man and Sin

We believe that man was created innocent but fell through sin. As a result, all mankind is sinful by nature and by choice, separated from God, and in need of salvation through Jesus Christ.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23

7. Salvation

We believe salvation is by grace through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ alone. Salvation is not earned by works, baptism, church membership, religious ritual, or personal merit. The sinner is saved when he repents toward God and places faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” — Ephesians 2:8-9

8. Eternal Security

We believe that those who are truly saved are kept by the power of God and are secure in Christ forever. Salvation is eternal life, and the believer is sealed by the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption.

“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” — John 10:28

9. The Local Church

We believe the local church is a congregation of baptized believers, organized for worship, instruction, fellowship, service, evangelism, and the observance of the ordinances. We believe in the autonomy of the local church under the headship of Christ.

“And he is the head of the body, the church.” — Colossians 1:18

10. Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

We believe there are two ordinances for the local church: believer’s baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism is for those who have already trusted Christ as Saviour and is a public testimony of faith. The Lord’s Supper is a memorial of Christ’s death until He comes.

“Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God.” — Colossians 2:12

11. Separation and Christian Living

We believe Christians are called to live holy lives that honor the Lord. Believers should separate from worldliness, false doctrine, and sinful practices, while walking in love, humility, obedience, and faithfulness to Christ.

“Be ye holy; for I am holy.” — 1 Peter 1:16

12. Soul Winning and Missions

We believe every believer has a responsibility to witness for Christ and that the Great Commission was given to the local church. We believe in personal evangelism, discipleship, church planting, and worldwide missions.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” — Matthew 28:19

13. The Return of Christ

We believe in the personal, visible, bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ. We hold to a premillennial view of Christ’s return and believe that the believer’s hope is to look for the coming of the Lord.

“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.” — Titus 2:13

14. Heaven and Hell

We believe in the eternal blessedness of the saved in heaven and the eternal punishment of the lost in hell and the lake of fire. Those who reject Jesus Christ remain under condemnation, while those who trust Christ receive everlasting life.

“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” — Revelation 20:15
